ONE-TO-ONE TUITION

Focused on the subject.
Mindful of the whole pupil.

From a weekly Maths lesson to sustained support across several subjects, I offer individual tuition built around the pupil’s current position and what they want to achieve.

THE APPROACH

Good teaching begins with understanding.

I take time to establish rapport, find out where understanding is secure, and identify what needs attention. Lessons combine clear explanations, careful practice, and purposeful discussion.

Examination results matter. I work on the relevant specification, question technique, and revision habits, while helping pupils make connections and become more confident, intellectually rounded learners.

PRACTICAL ARRANGEMENTS

The right rhythm for the pupil.

Tuition can be weekly, intensive, short-term examination preparation, or longer-term academic support. A lesson is usually around an hour, with flexibility where a different arrangement would be more useful.

I teach online internationally, including pupils following British curricula in the UK, the Gulf, India, and Sri Lanka. Lessons take account of the pupil’s examination board and time zone.

In-person tuition may be available by arrangement in New Town, the West End, and nearby central Edinburgh. I occasionally travel to London to work with existing home-education pupils around important examinations; families can discuss this as a separate premium arrangement.

CONFIDENCE & CONTINUITY

Space for an individual approach.

I have experience supporting pupils with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and dyscalculia. I adapt explanations, pace, and lesson structure in conversation with the pupil and family.

Mentoring can include regular check-ins, organisation, goal setting, and accountability. For pupils finding school or study difficult, a consistent and encouraging academic relationship can help. This is educational support; I do not provide clinical or therapeutic services.

FROM MY PRACTICE

Education, in context.

INDEPENDENT-SCHOOL ENTRANCE

Daniel: preparing with purpose for St Paul’s.

I prepared Daniel for one of London’s most competitive independent-school admissions processes, with focused entrance preparation and a clear sense of the demands ahead. Daniel gained admission to St Paul’s School.

A LEVEL HISTORY & FOOTBALL

Ben, Sam, and Josh: keeping academic ambitions in play.

Ben, Sam, and Josh were aspiring footballers who needed to balance A Level History with substantial sporting commitments. I adapted teaching around their schedules while maintaining accountability and clear academic priorities. They achieved their target grades.

A CLEAR STARTING POINT

WORDS FROM A PARENT

We really appreciated Michael's flexibility and availability in the year he spent tutoring our son his A Level Maths. He really liked working with Michael and spoke so highly of him. In fact, he said he had never been taught so well in his life. Michael took on so much for him and it was brilliant so thank you again.

LET’S BEGIN WITH A CONVERSATION

Tell me what your child needs.

Every arrangement begins with a complimentary 30-minute introductory conversation. We can discuss the pupil’s current position, objectives, and timetable, and decide whether I am the right person to help.

I usually respond within a few hours on weekdays.
